Samarium Cobalt (or SmCo) magnets are strong permanent magnets made of an alloy of samarium and cobalt. They are known for their high magnetic strength, exceptional temperature resistance, and reliable performance without oxidation protection. As a result, they are more suitable for certain applications than Neodymium magnets.
They are commonly used in high performance motors, magnetic couplings and magnetic separators. These are brittle magnets and are prone to cracking and chipping. Samarium magnets can be used for high temperature applications where neodymium will not work.
Samarium cobalt disc magnets are powerful rare earth magnets that offer superior resistance to heat and corrosion. A samarium cobalt magnet can perform at temperatures of up to 300°C, or 662°F. Their resistance to corrosion makes them a great choice for use in highly corrosive environments, such as on boats where magnets are exposed to saltwater. Samarium cobalt magnets offer superior magnetic strength in comparison to ceramic and AlNiCo magnets, and are commonly used in high-tech applications such as electronics, computers, and switches.
